Millington, Tenn. (December 3, 2012) – Brandy Carmichael, a senior at Millington Central High School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.
Carmichael is one of six students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for General Scholarship. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. Carmichael and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis, Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Carmichael strives for excellence in the classroom. She holds a 3.96 unweighted grade point average and scored 30 on the ACT with perfect scores of 36 on the English and reading sections of the test. Carmichael currently ranks third in a class of 288 seniors. During her junior year, Carmichael enrolled in classes at Southwest Tennessee Community College and is on track to earn 18 college credit hours in engineering and computer networking classes by the time she graduates from high school.
An aspiring engineer, Carmichael was selected to attend the Tennessee Governor’s School for Computational Physics where she earned seven college credit hours. She also attended the Summer ACE Academy Program sponsored by the Tuskegee Airmen Association in Memphis and the Girls Experiencing Engineering Program at the University of Memphis. Carmichael was selected as a fellow in this year’s Memphis Challenge class.
The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators.
Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each Sunday during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
